Trevone Round Hole
Scenic point Cornwall, England
About Trevone Round Hole
The Trevone Round Hole is a dramatic geological feature located on the cliffs at Trevone Bay, near Padstow in North Cornwall. This impressive natural wonder is an almost perfectly circular hole, approximately 80 feet (24 meters) deep, that plunges straight down to the sea below. It's essentially a collapsed sea cave, formed over thousands of years by the relentless erosion of the waves on the weaker sections of the cliff face. As the sea carved out the cave, the roof eventually weakened and gave way, creating the "blowhole" we see today. It's a fascinating testament to the powerful natural forces at play along this rugged coastline. Visitors should exercise extreme caution when viewing the Round Hole. There are no safety barriers directly around its edge, and the drop is sheer. Always keep a safe distance from the cliff edge, especially in windy or wet conditions, and ensure children and pets are kept under strict supervision. The best views are from the designated coastal path, which offers a good vantage point without getting too close to the unprotected edges. While you can't access the bottom of the hole, it's a popular spot for photography and a great example of coastal erosion in action, making it a memorable stop for anyone exploring the natural beauty of Trevone Bay.
