Trevone Bay in Cornwall, England

About Trevone Bay

Trevone Bay, often referred to as Porthmissen Beach, is a stunning and popular sandy cove on the North Cornwall coast, just a short drive from the bustling harbour town of Padstow. Renowned for its gently shelving golden sand and clear waters, it's a favourite for families, swimmers, and surfers alike. The bay is flanked by low, steep cliffs and rocky platforms, offering picturesque scenery and excellent opportunities for exploration. One of its most famous natural features is the "Round Hole," an impressive 80ft deep blowhole formed by a collapsed sea cave, a testament to the powerful forces of the Atlantic. Additionally, around a small headland, you'll find "Rocky Beach" (also known as Newtrain Bay), which is a haven for rock-pooling enthusiasts at low tide, teeming with small marine life. Trevone Bay also boasts a Blue Flag Award and Seaside Award, recognising its commitment to environmental standards, water quality, and safety.

Getting there

There are two large car parks, including a field car park, conveniently located near the beach (PL28 8QY). You'll find public toilets (some managed by Trevone Bay Stores, which may have a small charge), a beach shop, and a café right by the sand, offering refreshments, beach essentials, and even surf and wetsuit hire. During the summer months (typically May to September), the beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards, making it a safe spot for swimming, though swimmers should be aware of potential strong rip currents, especially on the right side of the beach. While the main sandy beach has a seasonal dog ban from May 15th to September 30th (10 am to 6 pm).
