Rogie Falls
Waterfall Highland, Scotland
About Rogie Falls
Rogie Falls — known in Gaelic as Eas Rothagaidh — is a series of cascades on the Black Water river in Ross-shire, sitting just off the A835 road about two kilometres northwest of Contin. The water drops through a rocky gorge surrounded by pine and silver birch woodland, and a suspension bridge crosses directly above the falls, giving you a close look at the full force of the river pushing through the narrow channel below. On the far bank, an artificial channel lets salmon bypass the main cascade — which means if you're here in late summer or autumn, especially August and September, there's a genuine chance of watching Atlantic salmon launch themselves up through the white water. The walk from the Forestry and Land Scotland car park is short, around 1.4 kilometres on a circular route, with the paths mostly firm gravel through lichen-covered trees, though it gets muddy after rain. The whole thing takes under an hour at a leisurely pace.
