Black Water Falls
Waterfall Highland, Scotland
About Black Water Falls
The Black Water Falls sit on the Black Water River just off the A835 between Garve and Ullapool, where a double-arched stone bridge — the old Silverbridge — frames a view upstream over a series of rapids and rocky drops. The bridge and the tracks around it have some history: they once formed part of a drovers' road used to move cattle south to market. A short set of steps on the east bank takes you down to a close-up vantage point at the water's edge, and a circular walk then follows the river downstream between Silverbridge and the Little Garve car park, passing pools where brown trout are often visible. The path is clear but rocky and uneven in places, so decent footwear helps. It's not a single dramatic plunge so much as a lively stretch of river working its way through Highland terrain — a reasonable half-hour stop if you're on the road north toward Ullapool.
