Linn Falls
Waterfall Moray, Scotland
About Linn Falls
The Linn Falls — also called the Linn of Ruthrie — is a double-cascade waterfall where the Burn of Aberlour drops through a narrow wooded gorge just outside Charlestown of Aberlour. Getting there is straightforward: an easy walk of around 1.5 miles from the village follows the burn upstream through a mix of native broadleaf trees, Scots Pine, and tall North American conifers before arriving at the foot of the falls. On the return leg you pass within sight of Aberlour Distillery, which has stood on the far bank of the burn since 1879. Charlestown of Aberlour itself began as an 18th-century planned village laid out around a far older settlement, and the longer circular route out to the Braes of Allachy takes in open views of Ben Rinnes and the surrounding Speyside countryside before descending back through the gorge. The pool below the cascades draws swimmers in summer, though the water is reliably cold. The falls are at their most impressive after heavy rain or during the wetter autumn months.
