About Talisker Waterfall
Talisker Waterfall sits at the northern end of Talisker Bay on the west coast of the Isle of Skye, where the river Allt Mheididh drops roughly 130 metres off a sheer cliff face straight onto the beach below — one of the highest single-drop coastal waterfalls in the UK. The bay itself is framed by vertical cliffs on one side and a prominent sea stack on the other, with a stretch of dark sand that mixes black and white to create a mottled, unusual-looking shoreline. On windier days the falling water gets caught and blown back upward, which is worth seeing if the conditions cooperate. To get there, park at the road end and follow a flat 20-minute track past Talisker House, a whitewashed building dating to 1717 and once the seat of the Macleods of Talisker. Low tide is the best time to visit — the beach opens up considerably and the walk along the sand to the waterfall base is easier. The single-track road from Carbost to the car park is narrow and rough.
