St Dunstan in the East Church Garden
Historical Southwark, England
About St Dunstan in the East Church Garden
St Dunstan in the East Church Garden is a public garden nestled within the atmospheric ruins of a medieval church in the City of London. 1 Severely damaged during the Blitz in 1941, the main body of the church was not rebuilt. 1 Instead, the surviving walls and magnificent Christopher Wren steeple became the framework for a unique and tranquil green space, opened in 1971. Today, trees, wall shrubs, and climbers grow amidst the Gothic architecture, creating a picturesque and peaceful oasis hidden away from the surrounding city bustle.
