Polstreath Beach
Beach Cornwall, England
About Polstreath Beach
Polstreath sits just north of Mevagissey, a roughly 30-minute walk from the town along the South West Coast Path. Getting there involves a steep descent down metal staircases with handrails on both sides, dropping through fern-covered cliffs — the view down the steps to the water and the surrounding headlands is one of the more dramatic approaches to any Cornish beach. At the bottom you get a wide, sheltered mix of sand and shingle, clear water that shifts between turquoise and indigo depending on the light, and no facilities whatsoever. At low tide, the old lighthouse on Mevagissey's harbour wall comes into view across the water, along with Chapel Point to the south. There's no lifeguard on duty, so swimming is at your own judgment. All parking, cafés, and toilets are back in Mevagissey. Dogs are welcome year-round. Summer is the practical window for swimming, with water temperatures peaking around August.
