Aberfforest Beach
Beach Pembrokeshire, Wales
About Aberfforest Beach
Aberfforest is a small, quiet cove sitting within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, a couple of miles along the coast from Newport. The beach itself is mostly shingle and flat, rounded slate — good for skimming stones — though sand appears as the tide pulls back. Headlands shelter it on both sides, which makes it a calm spot for a swim even at high tide. To the east, sheer cliffs rise above the waterline; to the west, the Fforest stream cuts through ancient deciduous woodland on its way down to the sea, and following it inland leads you to a small waterfall. An 18th-century lime kiln sits at the back of the beach and offers a decent viewpoint over the bay. The Pembrokeshire Coast Path runs through, and most people arrive on foot — access by car is very limited — so the beach stays genuinely quiet even in midsummer. Seals occasionally turn up close to shore, and the woodland behind draws plenty of birdlife. There are no facilities on the beach itself; the nearest pubs and shops are back in Newport or Dinas.
